How do I find journal articles on a particular topic?
The library offers
a large number of databases which list articles published
in journals and other types of publications. Some of these are available
in print and some are available online.
If you are unsure which of these might be best for you to use, ask
a User
Services Librarian at the Reference
desk for assistance.

How do I find out if the library has a particular journal?
Do a Title search
in the Library Catalog for the journal
title. If the library subscribes to a particular journal, the catalog
record will indicate which years of the journal the library has and where
these journals are located within the library.

May journals be checked out?
Print journals are not available
for checkout. However, they may be photocopied.

What if I can't find a particular journal issue?
If the Library Catalog indicates that the library should have a particular issue, check with a User Services
Librarian at the Reference desk to make sure it has been received.
If the library does not have holdings for a particular journal, the library (in most cases)
can get a copy of the journal article for you through Interlibrary
Loan.

How do I find Periodicals (journals, magazines, newspapers) in the library?
The library's Periodicals
holdings are catalogued in the Library Catalog. Do a Title
search in the Library Catalog for the journal title. If the library subscribes
to a particular journal, the catalog record will indicate which years
of the journal the library has and where these journals are located within
the library. (Library Map)
| CURRENT PERIODICALS: |
| The most recent journal and magazine issues are alphabetically arranged
on the Current Periodicals shelves, located
next to the Reference office. |
| The newspapers are located on the first
row of the Current Periodicals shelves. |
| When more recent issues are received, the "older" ones are moved to the
PAPER & BOUND section in the stacks (shelves). |
| When enough issues are received of a particular title, they are either
BOUND or MICROFILMED |
PAPER & BOUND: |
| The PAPER & BOUND periodicals are arranged alphabetically by the periodical title on the shelves adjacent to the Vandiver Reference Center. |
MICROFILM: |
| The MICROFILM periodicals are arranged alphabetically by the periodical title in the cabinets on the back wall of the library (behind the bound periodicals and Reference shelves). |
| Note: The New York Times microfilm rolls are located in the green boxes on the back wall. |
ELECTRONIC / ONLINE ACCESS: |
| If
the catalog record indicates that a periodical is available
electronically in one of the library's electronic databases,
you can access the database through the Online Databases: A-Z Listing page. |

Does the library have current/daily newspapers I can read?
Yes. These newspapers
are located on the first row of the Current Periodicals
shelves in the library's Reference section.(Library Map)
The library currently subscribes to the following newspapers: The New York Times, The State, The Washington Post, The Post and Courier, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, and The Greenville News.
The library also has links to online newspapers on the Internet
Reference Sites: News and Current Events page.
