We're happy to announce that after nearly five months of construction and renovations, the beautiful new Vandiver Reference Center is complete! Check out these renovation photos!

old Reference Desk

During last Spring Break, the old Reference office - affectionately known among library staff as "The Hut" - was torn down!

In early June, the old carpet was removed from the Main floor!

The week of June 25th saw the drywall installed.

Walls are primed and painted

During the week of July 9, workers primed and painted the walls, and the following week, they added lighting.

The new carpet is down

The new carpet was finally put in the week of August 6!

But getting this carpet down was not without its challenges and labors!

It took a lot of strong muscle to do it!

New tile

Shortly before Fall classes started, the workers installed the new floor tiles.

Students are enjoying the new furniture

The new furniture arrived in early October…

These new lounge type chairs have dual swiveling tablet arms, allowing students to easily use laptops and books together.

Before...

For the past four decades our carpet and furniture have withstood a lot of usage...

old furniture

This was all the rage in 1967!! (What color is that anyway?)

old carpet

It was not unusual to see tape on the old carpet seams

old reference area

The Reference area has traditionally been very 'square' shaped, with hard lines and angles appearing in the architecture and furniture. The new Vandiver Reference Center now has a softer, more inviting appearance, with a curved Reference desk and new color scheme.

Delivery of the new Reference Service desk

In mid-late September, the new custom-built Reference desk arrived. It was so large that it came in three separate pieces, in addition to the storage pieces.

…And it didn't take students long to discover it!

old furniture

Much of the old furniture - including chairs and study carrols - on the Main floor has been replaced with comfortable seating.

old Reference Desk

Unlike our old desk, the new Vandiver Reference Center service desk is a beautiful, spacious, custom-built piece of work. No unsightly cords!
